The Heaviest Crane Fleet in Central Pennsylvania
Some trees cannot be removed safely with ropes and climbing alone. When a 90-foot oak is leaning over a roof, a dead hemlock is tangled in power lines, or there is no room for a bucket truck to reach the trunk, the job requires a crane. Arbor Pro’s Tree Service operates two heavy-lift knuckle boom cranes and two track-mounted spider lifts out of Curwensville, PA, serving Clearfield County, Centre County, Jefferson County, and Elk County. We carry full liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage — ask any contractor you’re considering whether they can say the same.
Our Crane Fleet
65-Ton COPMA 650 Knuckle Boom Crane
The COPMA 650 is a 65-ton knuckle boom crane with 100 feet of horizontal reach, equipped with a grapple saw that grabs, cuts, and lifts entire tree sections in a single operation. This allows large sections to be removed without requiring a climber in the tree. It handles mature hardwoods over structures, storm-damaged trees under tension, and multi-stem trunks that would be difficult to dismantle conventionally.
90-Foot Wallboard Knuckle Boom Crane
The second crane provides 90 feet of reach and is also equipped with a grapple saw. It handles the next tier of heavy removals and provides the flexibility to run crane-assisted jobs on two sites simultaneously. When a job does not require the full 65-ton capacity, this crane delivers the same precision at a faster setup.
How Crane Removal Works
Conventional tree removal relies on a climber cutting pieces one at a time and lowering them through the canopy with ropes. Every cut is a controlled risk — each piece swings, bounces, or drops past branches, siding, and utility lines on its way down. A large tree near a house can take two full days to dismantle this way, and the risk of property damage increases with every piece.
Crane-assisted removal changes that process. The crane lifts entire sections straight up, clears the structure, and sets them down in an open area where the ground crew processes them. A two-day climbing job often becomes a four-hour crane job. Less time on site means less disruption to the property, lower risk of damage, and in many cases a lower total cost than conventional methods.

When Crane Removal Is the Right Approach
Not every tree removal requires a crane. It is typically the right approach when:
- A large tree is leaning toward a house, garage, or other structure
- A dead or storm-damaged tree is under tension and could fail unpredictably
- The tree is near power lines with no safe drop zone
- The tree is too large or too decayed for a climber to work in safely
- Access limitations prevent a bucket truck from reaching the work area
Our crew evaluates every job before recommending crane removal. If the tree can come down safely with conventional methods, we will say so — we do not bring a crane unless the job genuinely calls for one.
Spider Lifts for Tight-Access Work
When a tree is behind a fence, between buildings, or on a steep hillside where no crane or bucket truck can reach, our spider lifts bridge the gap. The CMC 92HD+ Arbor Pro spider lift reaches 92 feet on tracks that fit through a standard 36-inch gate. The 75-foot TEUPEN spider lift handles slopes and soft ground that would stop wheeled equipment. Both machines provide an elevated work platform with the stability to handle heavy limbs in places conventional equipment cannot access.
Ground Protection
Cranes are heavy equipment, and we treat every property accordingly. Protective ground mats go down before any crane, truck, or spider lift moves onto a lawn or driveway. Equipment placement and travel paths are planned in advance to minimize impact. When the job is done, we remove every branch, every chip, and every piece of debris. When the job is done, we leave the property exactly as we found it.
